This versatile treat can be customized with various flavors, making it perfect for any palate. Below, I’ll guide you through the steps to make this snack and provide tips for perfecting it.

Why Choose Air-Fried Lentils?
Lentils are a powerhouse of nutrition. They are rich in protein, fiber, and minerals like iron and folate, making them an excellent choice for anyone looking to boost their nutrient intake. Air frying lends a delightful crunch without the need for excessive oil, making them a healthier alternative to traditional fried snacks.
What You’ll Need
- Lentils: Any variety works, but brown, green, or black lentils hold up best when air-fried.
- Oil: A light spray or a teaspoon of olive oil or avocado oil will do.
- Spices: This is where you can get creative. Salt and pepper are basic, but consider adding garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, or curry powder for a kick.
- Air Fryer: An essential tool for achieving that perfect crunch.
Instructions
-
Preparation: Start by rinsing 1 cup of lentils under cold water. Then, boil them in salted water until just tender – about 15-20 minutes. They should be cooked but still have a bit of a bite.
-
Seasoning: Drain the lentils well, removing as much water as possible. Toss them in a bowl with a teaspoon of oil and your chosen spices. Ensure the lentils are evenly coated.
-
Cooking: Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C). Spread the lentils in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. The lentils should be golden and crispy.
-
Cooling: Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. This not only helps them crisp up further but also makes them more flavorful as the spices meld.
Flavor Variations
- Cheesy: Add nutritional yeast before cooking for a cheesy flavor.
- Sweet and Spicy: Toss with a little honey and chili powder for a sweet heat twist.
- Herb and Garlic: Mix in dried herbs like oregano and a dash of garlic powder for an Italian-inspired flavor.
