It started raining and never quit. March has been a soggy month as you can read all about in last months newsletter, but we are hopeful for April to bring better weather. Until then we can reminisce on the beautiful pictures from last year! A few short weeks and this can be our view. I don’t know about you but we are tired of being cooped up inside on the Palouse.
Spring Awakening: Lentil Planting
After a soggy March, Kevin and his crew are eagerly anticipating the right moment to get into the fields and begin planting. With the weather clearing up, they’re hopeful that next week will mark the start of another successful season. Starting off the season, their focus will be on Brown Lentils, the crop Whitman County is famous for!
Our unique soil and climate create the ideal environment for cultivating high-quality lentils. These lentils play a significant role in the local farming community and economy, and they remain a staple crop for the area. Fun fact...ever summer our community celebrates with our very own fun Lentil Festival. If ever in the Palouse in the summer make sure to join! This year it is August 26th. Learn more here. Back to planting...as the team prepares to head into the fields, we are so excited to kick off another productive planting season. With the ground getting close to ready, we are optimistic the team will be out there next week. If all goes well, it will be another successful harvest for Whitman County and us! We love our farm is part of the continued legacy of high-quality lentils that put this region on the map.
